It is obvious that 99% of people are very good at a start of every business or any life endeavour you could think of. But, it is very unfortunate that out of this 99%, it is very certain that only 30% may make it to the end. Have you asked yourself that why is it happening that way?
There is nothing as 'feeling ok' as seeing oneself in running what has been longed for with passion in a reality. A lot of people started very good because of the initial passion they had for the business, but they could not hold on to this passion, simply because they wanted to answer the name of Mr. B which is only recognized in the spirit world; thereby making the physical world to forget their names why because the new name they gave themselves was not convasant with the people around, and as a result of that, they failed woefully in their businesses.
Don't be confused! I am going to explain what I mean in the forgoing parable.
Business needs total concentration! If you start a business, or you want to start one, the first thing to come to mind are these five points I am going to unveil very soon; aside those, you are going to meet liquidation.
I believe that before anyone starts anything, he must have his reason and goal to archive. What is your goal? What is your vision? What is your mission? I believe you are the right person to answer these questions. Therefore, when you start a business, you don't need to be enticing by the cars or mansions of those business men and women who have already made it. The reason is that by the time you begin to be carried away by those exotic cars and mansions, your business will begin to experience pre-liquidation because the money which supposed to be used to expand your business would now be used to buy those momentous cars and mansions. And you know what that means!
As we all know, if you want to get it right, you must follow the law of process. Except that you just want to get it anyhow; and if it's done anyhow, the results will not too far from the "anyhow".
In this article, I have come up with five compulsory things every entrepreneur, business man or woman should know to succeed in any business.
Here are the five key things you should know:
1. PROPER CHOICE OF BUSINESS SITE
You can call it "shop" or "office" or any name you want to, but my message means where you really want to set up your business.
It is no doubt uncountable businesses have gone down because of improper choice of business site. The locations of your business determine what you sell a day; and also how much profits you make a day.
If you want to set up a business, the first thing to consider is the location, vicinity, the people, the road and other simple things we may take too common like your neighbours, and very importantly competitors.
Mind you; there is no haste in life. Take your time to study the area before you pay for the shop, or before you start buying what is in your mind. Don't forget, you don't buy those things for yourself, you are buying it for people to patronize you. Right? Yes! Then, it is time to ask yourself; "what type of goods are good for the people of this area?", " Do I see people to patronize me if I buy what is in mind?", "Is any one selling what I have in mind to sell here?", " If there is, or they are, are they making it?"
The forging questions must be properly answered before the next step should be taken. If possible you have 95% positive answers from all the questions, fine go ahead. But if not, hasten your foot steps from that area because if you venture go ahead with the negative accessment of the area, it means you are heaping your money in a voicemail.
Everything I use in my article is a life experience. I have witnessed it before. Improper choice of business site is very deadly to business success.
I want to use Lagos State as an example for all of you. If you are from Nigeria and want to do business in Lagos, you have to be very careful how you rent your office or shop. Just as I said earlier, the amount and profits you make a day is determined by the location of your business.
There are some streets you don't need to set up your business at all. Because if you do, you are just telling yourself that "l love sleep, not business". It is true there are some locations where business men and women use 10 hours to sleep and use 2 hours to sell. It is not that they really want to sleep, but lack of customers and market forces them to go on a sleeping fiesta.
Take note of Suru Street, off Agege Stadium, Agege Lagos Nigeria. And also Shoore Close Orile Agege Lagos Nigeria. Jibowu street, off Ota road, Agege, Lagos Nigeria. There are so many of them. People doing business in these mentioned streets do not sell more than N2000 or at most N5,000 a day.
If you continue this way, how much are you going to save. Can it be enough to even pay bills let alone to save out of it? I doubt it.
2. PRIORITIZE YOUR CUSTOMERS THAN THE MONEY
Every business has its targeted customers to succeed. Business without customers is like a car without tyres. And you know what that means. A car without tyres cannot move, likewise a business without customers cannot succeed no matter how large you started. What makes business succeed is the amount or number of customers that patronize it in a daily basis.
Get rid of the thought of " becoming large or billionaire overnight" and keep thought of "building trusted customers, enlarging businesses" if you really want to be successful in your business.
Every successful business man or woman who had succeeded will tell you how important in the first place, your customers are than the money. If you can be able to build your customers in the first two or three years of your business, not just customers, but trusted customers; you are rest assured that in the next one year you are going to hit the apex lather of greatness in your business line.
At a start of every business, if you prioritize the money than the customers, there is 88% probability that you may liquidate on the long run. But if you prioritize the customers first, you have built everlasting money streaming gateway of your business.
HOW TO BUILD THE REQUIRED CUSTOMERS TO SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS BOOMING:
¡. RUN AN ADVERT:
Your business needs expansion. Your business needs awareness to grow. Advertising your business either on newspaper, Television or on the internet has a long way to lift your business to unimaginable profits and sustainable successful duration of your business.
¡¡. NEVER BE FOUND WANTED.
Ensure you always available when your customers need you. Always make sure your store or shop never lack of goods.
¡¡¡. BE STRAIGHT FORWARD
There is nothing like the first impression! Try to build that first impression with all your customers. Don't over charge for your markets. Don't sell fake and counterfeit goods.
v. RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMERS
As we all know, customers are always right. No Matter what happens try to adapt to their behaviours. Never be rude to them. Treat them with modesty.
v¡. MAKE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION PUBLIC
You don't restrict some customers and grant easy access to some other ones. No! Ensure that every customer reaches you when he wants to reach out to you. And the best way to do this is to make banner or flyers enough available at your shop. Give it to any customer who comes to buy things. Clearly explain why you are giving him or her the flyers. In the flyers, you must make sure your shop address, email address, Twitter handle, Facebook fan page, LinkedIn business page, Google+ and phone numbers are well spelt out in there.
3. KEEP THE CUSTOMERS
It is one different thing to build your targeted audience and it's another different thing entirely to keep them. Having gained enough customers for your business, you must be very happy to see your business growing; but there are terms and conditions apply to it if you really want to see the progress to the end. So, the next thing to consider is how to keep them.
You must learnt every bit of skills it takes to maintain and keep potential customers of your business. The basic thing is to know what they want, how to supply them with what they want at the right time, and respect their personality irrespective of what takes place during the business hours. Always consider your customers being the most very great success of your business, treat them very well. You must know how to approach them with polite words. Never behave like the Yorubas. Always behave like the Igbos. As you keep to these terms and conditions, you won't be surprised that with time your customers will be advertising for your business. You don't need to run advert any longer because your good name is doing the work for you. Good name is far better off than anything. Create trusted channel between your business and your customers, and your company or business will grow beyond your imagination.
4. AVOID PRIDE
Just like I earlier said, your business success is determined by the relationship you build with your potential customers. Humility is the key to success! If you really want to prosper in your business, you must learn to drop pride. Pride has ruined thousands of businesses in the world.
What pride does is very simple! It makes you feel you have all it takes to take to anybody as you want. But, in the business world, it is highly dangerous to the sustainable growth of your business. When customers are talking to you or asking you questions, you are expected to be fully present both in body and mind. You don't answer your customers and keep pressing your system, or talking to your customers and at the same time making unnecessary phone calls. This shows unseriousness coupled with nonchalant attitude results in pride. Be humble and gentle with your customers.
5. ALWAYS MAKE SAVINGS
Finally, all works without play makes Jack a dog boy! It is obvious that all your efforts will be nothing but in vain if there is no saving agenda in the curriculum for your business success.
You must learn to save! The problem of many Nigerians is that we hardly find it easy to save. Take for instance; let's assume you are making N10 million naira a day from your business, and after your expenses; you are left with just N1000 naira in your hands. Tell me, with this type of system are you making progress or downfalls? Making saving is very hard for those who lack self control and discipline in their lives. For you to make a save, you must discipline yourself. You must starve yourself of some momentous pleasurable experiences and foods you may in ordinary time will not want to miss.
For you to make a save, you must have something in mind as your target or goal you will like to reach within a specific period of time. If possible, write your goal in sheet of paper work and place it in your living room where you will always see it; and you are seeing it, keep affirming it to yourself day and night and before you know it, you strongly formed a habit of savings.
